Black Food Bloggers To Immediately Add To Your IG Feed

There is so much work that needs to be done to end racial injustice, and it doesn’t stop with protests and making donations. It involves change in every facet of our lives and that includes what we cook, why we cook it and the conversations with friends and family at the dinner table. So we’ve compiled a must-follow list of Black food bloggers that are providing us with stellar (vegan, not-so-vegan, Afro-Caribbean, Southern, you name it) cookbooks and recipes with a history. This list is not comprehensive! We hope you’ll share your favorite Black food bloggers in the comments (or by tagging us on Instagram).

1. Aaron Hutcherson (@thehungryhutch)

As an NYC-based recipe developer, food writer and professional eater, Aaron describes his blog as “savory and sweet recipes that reflect a mix of my soul food upbringing, professional culinary expertise, and gastronomic curiosity.”  His blog features staple recipes (think homemade banana pudding and oven-baked ribs), but there are also plenty of dishes that may be new-to-you, like spicy roasted delica squash and pickled cucumber relish.

2. Jenné Claiborne (@sweetpotatosoul)

Sweet Potato Soul is much more than just an ode to everyone’s favorite root vegetable. This vegan chef is also sharing vibrant Southern-inspired recipes (hello, jerk jackfruit tacos) on her blog and in her cookbook. If you’re considering making the switch to a plant-based diet, don’t miss her tips on how to make your produce last longer and her meal plans.

3. Meiko Drew (@meikoandthedish)

With tried-and-true favorites like salt and pepper chicken thighs, Cajun shrooms and grits and smoky beef and tomato soup, it’s kind of impossible to decide which one of Meiko’s mouthwatering dishes to try first.

On her blog, Imma provides recipes that span the continent of Africa and the Caribbean homeland, like Asun (bold and spicy roasted goat) and doubles, a Caribbean curry chickpea and flatbread sandwich that’s the epitome of Trinidad street food. Incase you missed the @facebook live show sponsored by @mccormickspice click the link in my bio to watch❤ Recipe below: INGREDIENTS Vegetable stock, (such as Kitchen Basics®) Water Grapeseed oil Linguine noodles McCormick® Sea Salt Grinder McCormick® Garlic Powder Garlic cloves, crushed or chopped Red bell pepper, seeded and chopped White mushrooms, sliced Yellow squash, chopped Zucchini, chopped McCormick® Salt Free Garlic and Herb Seasoning McCormick® Basil Leaves McCormick® Oregano Leaves Baby spinach leaves Lemon wedges McCormick® Black Pepper Grinder INSTRUCTIONS Mix enough veggie stock and water to cook noodles in a large saucepan. Add a dash of grapeseed oil and a pinch of salt and garlic powder. Bring to a boil and cook noodles about 10 minutes or until you like the texture. Drain well and set aside. Heat a splash of grapeseed oil in a large sauté pan. Add garlic and veggies, except spinach. Stir in garlic powder (I add a lot), garlic & herb seasoning (I add a lot of this, too), and a few shakes of basil and oregano. Sauté a few minutes while stirring. Once the veggies are softened, stir in the spinach. Sprinkle with a little more garlic & herb seasoning, if you’d like, tossing to mix. Add cooked noodles, along with a splash of veggie stock, a bit more oil and another sprinkle of garlic powder, basil and oregano. Sauté for about 2 more minutes, and then it’s ready! Serve on your favorite plate with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice over top. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and oregano, to taste.
