Back to school means it’s time to update your fall wardrobe. You’ll be catching up with old pals after a summer of fun, and we want you to look and feel your best. With the coming fall, you’ll need some transitional pieces that will get you through those cozy, chillier months, and maybe a few statement pieces that can bring you right into winter. Let’s get into the season’s trends.

1. Red

Just like Taylor Swift’s hit, we’re loving red this season. This bold colour choice has been all over the runways, and whether you’re rocking a monochromatic power suit, or adding a pop of colour through a statement accessory, you can’t go wrong with this hue.

MARC JACOBS, Leather Bucket Bag, $395

2. Sweater Dresses

An old favourite, and perfect for cozying up by a fire, we’re seeing an updated version of the classic sweater dress this season. Opt for intricate cable knits and a figure hugging fit in a neutral palette so this piece can be the basis for many outfits with some quick topper and accessory changes.

Anthropologie, 4SI3NNA Long-Sleeve Striped Sweater Mini Dress, $158

3. Tartan

We’re saying bye-bye to flannel, and bringing in another cozy material with tartan. You’ll find this in pencil skirts, shawls, and streetwear separates making for loads of fun pattern play. We love the highland vibes this trend is bringing.

Gilt, Jimmy Choo Bing 100 Tartan Pump, $749.00

4. Boxy Blazers

Following on the oversized trends we’ve been seeing, blazers are getting another update this fall. The boxier the better. With exaggerated shoulders, statement lapels, and fun double-breasted styles, you can’t go wrong with a few statement blazers.

AllSaints, Corin Miro Blazer, $445 $178.00

5. Turtlenecks

It wouldn’t be fall without throwing in a few new turtlenecks to the mix. The big difference? We’re moving away from the warm, neutral hues and opting for bold statement tops. Jewel tones, texture, and fabrics with interest are the key here. Take it up a notch by pairing these tops with a statement necklace.

Ann Taylor, Long Sleeve Turtleneck, $49.50

6. 80’s Business Chic

Fashion, of course, likes to cycle through the eras, and this season we’re seeing a throwback to the 80’s business world with a take on suiting. High contrast colours like black and white in skirt sets, cinched waists, exaggerated shoulders, and loads of velvet.

Kate Spade, Velvet Blazer ($448 $381.00) and Pants ($268 $214)

Looking to fill out your fall wardrobe with some essentials? We’ve got you covered.
