A classic American dessert, this apple berry crisp recipe is a perfect festive treat. Complete with Christmas fragrances from the seasonal fruit and decadent sweetness from the sugar and cinnamon, this will make you instantly nostalgic. Ingredients: 5 Golden Delicious or Rome Beauty apples, sliced;
2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries, blueberries, cranberries or raspberries;
3/4 cup packed brown sugar;
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon;
1/8 tsp salt;
1/3 cup unsifted all purpose flour;
5 tbsp butter;
1/3 cup quick rolled oats. Method: 1. Preheat the oven to 375 F.
2. Grease a baking dish.
3. In a large bowl, combine the apples, berries, 1/4 cup of the brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon, and a pinch of salt and toss to blend.
4. Pour the apple-berry mixture into the prepared dish.
5. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the flour, 1/8 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 cup of the brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
6. With a pastry blender or two knives, cut in the butter until it’s crumbly.
7. Next stir in the oats.
8. Sprinkle the oat mixture over the apples and bake 40-45 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping is crisp and golden.
